You will never get a government contract if you do not sign up for the System for Awards Management, or SAM. You need to go through and register to this website so that you can find and apply for some of the available jobs that are on there. Applying here will help you get your unique code that is your identification on the website.

As you sign up for the unique code, you will need to select All Awards as the registration purpose and input for your entity type. You will also need some of the other information to help get this number including:

# Legal business name

# The physical address that is used for your business. You can’t use a post office box for this, even if you use this for your business.

# The date that you started your business.

# The state of incorporation.

# The national provider identifier if you are not a resident of the United States.

# Your taxpayer identification number and your taxpayer name to look it up

# Your CAGE code if you are a locally registered entity of your NCAGE code for foreign entities who want to apply for the job.

# It is best if you have information about your financials and banking and you set up your EFT at the beginning. This makes it easier to transfer the funds early on so that you do not end up with having to do this at the last minute.

In the past, you were able to use the DUNS number to help you sign up for this, but the system has changed. If you have never done a government contract, you can just go onto SAM.gov and get the new UEI number. But if you have used the DUNS number in the past, then you are able to go and get it switched. Your information should stay the same outside of a switch for that number. This will help you stay up to date on the website and allows you to continue getting the contracts that you need and transacting with the federal government.
