As a general practice, the job of a babysitter is not as difficult as the job of a nanny, but still, it is as responsible as a nanny appointed to take care of the child. Although a babysitter has to be with your child for the limited hours of a day during particular occasions, to entertain your child and to play with them. This however is not required by the parents, because it is a matter of your child’s safety, it is necessary that a babysitter hired by you is responsible and able to take decisions immediately to ensure the safety of the child.

There are certain characteristic features that are expected to be present in a babysitter. However, the babysitters provided by the nanny agencies are authentic and reliable,  but before you find a babysitter for your child it is important to know those characteristics.

  1. Ability to lead: As mentioned above the job of a babysitter is mainly to entertain your child, but it is not what we all expect from him. All the parents expect a babysitter to take care of their child and follow the instructions as given by the parents and not work according to the wishes of the child. He should make sure that the child not remains safe during the absence of his parents, but also learns good etiquettes in his company and learns his responsibilities from childhood.
  2. Punctual: A babysitter is not required to take of the child daily but during particular days of the week. For this, it is necessary that he is punctual in his job if parents ask him to be present at home to be with the child at 5 pm then he should be there strictly five minutes before the time.
  3. Reliable: Punctuality and reliability go hand-to-hand, apart from being punctual a babysitter should be reliable. If he tells you that he will reach your home at 5 pm, then he should reach there at the time told by him. In case if he doesn’t stay on his words that means he is not trustworthy and also you have to cancel your schedule because of him. Therefore, for a babysitter, it is important to be reliable.
  4. Attentive: The main responsibility of a babysitter is to take care of your child, entertain him, and keep busy with some creative task. It is not that he spends his time talking on his mobile and the child is left unattended. On the contrary, he should be creative and help your child learn new things, play games with him. He should help your child in finishing his homework and help him in his studies.

Apart from these four traits, a babysitter should be caring and keep updating the parents if he notices anything unusual in the behaviour of the child.
