The Move-Out Inspection When You Leave Your Apartment

If you do plan to move out of an apartment, your landlord is going to do an inspection of the property. This will help them to see whether there is damage beyond the wear and tear, and can ensure that you will be able to get your deposit back at the end if you took good care of the apartment. You may need to do a bit of work to make sure the apartment looks nice, but this can save a lot of hassle.

For example, it is possible that you will need to go through the apartment and spackle and paint over the holes that are in the walls. Take the time to clean all the carpets and get it all in good working order. If you broke something in the apartment while living there, then taking the time to get it fixed before the landlord decides to do their inspection. There are some areas that may need a decent deep clean as well. Make sure that everything is scrubbed down and free of mildew and mold, looking for anything that could cause problems during your inspection.

Some of the areas of the apartment that you should consider working on include:

--The light fixtures, checking and replacing all of the light bulbs that are in there.

--Cabinets to make sure that they are free from damage or broken handles

--Appliances in good condition and cleaned off

--Fire extinguishers that are available to use and functional

--The batteries of the smoke detector if it is in your lease to get them changed.

--Blinds and window treatments that came with your unit. You can take the rest with you.

--Clean carpets and floors, especially if you had pets in the unit

--Check for any of the leaks in the plumbing that may be around.

--Doors and locks

--Walls and ceilings

--Anything else that is covered under your lease that you are responsible for fixing.
